About this activity

Meet your guide at your hotel lobby at 8:15 am and begin your Shanghai tour. The following is the details about major places you will visit during the tour:
• Yu Garden, Garden of Happiness, was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty. The garden was the largest and most prestigious of its era in Shanghai.
• Bund or Riverside Promenade (Binjiang Da Dao), is a waterfront area in central Shanghai. The best place in the city to enjoy the contrast picture of Modern Shanghai and Classical Colonial Shanghai.
• Peace hotel (Sassoon House), was built by Sir Victor Sassoon, of the Sassoon family, which built a Shanghai business and real estate empire in the early 20th century in Shanghai.
• Former French Concession: You will visit Xin Tian Di area in the middle part of former French Concession.
• Lunch restaurant choosen with your preference Chinese food flavor.
• Maglev Train, the world fastest train with the speed of 431km per hour, only 7 minutes drive for 35km.

Your take away from the tour will be: enjoying Chinese landscape, architecture, garden technique in the Yu Garden at the beginning of the day when everything is still quiet and peaceful. What a fabulous day we had! Penny Pung was our private guide. She has lived in Shanghai since 2004 and knows the city and how to make things happen! We had done many of the included items with our group tour which we did not realize would happen. When Penny arrived, we asked how flexible we could be and she said Very! We were able to go back and spend more time at one place, add on a few extras, and had a great time. Penny has taught Mandarin and English so her command of both languages is excellent. We had no issues with communication whatsoever and she taught us a bit of Mandarin over the course of the day. I was traveling with my mother and my son who is 14 and both adored Penny. She knows so much of the history of Shanghai and China in general. She also took us to a lovely lunch which was a nice change of pace from our group tour meals which were good filled with big tables, lots of people and lazy susans. The food was excellent and the setting was a nice change. Not so fast paced. If you need a private guide in Shanghai, Penny is your 'girl!'
