We will start in Gripsholm Castle, one of Swedens´ most important historical monuments from the 16th century when Gustav Eriksson (Vasa) got himself elected as the king of Sweden (1523) after he had led Sweden to independence from Denmark with the dissolution of the Kalmar Union.
It is a fascinating castle with a lot of historical interiors from different centuries. Gripsholm is also the home for the Swedish National Portrait Gallery from 1822 that contains more than 5 000 portraits of prominent Swedes from the 1500s until to today. As the english guided tour just are held at 15.00, everyone will get an official guidebook for the castle in English with a suggested route that helps you to get the most out of your visit.
