About this activity
Visit: Taronga Zoo, Bradleys Head Road, Mosman, New South Wales 2088 Australia
Your Sydney Taronga Zoo entry ticket provides general admission to the zoo and includes the Sky Safari cable car. Any guided tours, animal encounters and other optional activities inside the zoo are at your own expense.
After entering the zoo, make your way around its 10 themed areas — including Wild Australia, Wild Asia and the Great Southern Oceans — where you can see animals living in unique environments that imitate their natural habitats. Have your camera ready at all times, as views of Sydney Harbour and Harbour Bridge abound.
Don’t miss a ride on the Sky Safari cable car, which whisks you high above the zoo grounds, giving you bird’s-eye views of zoo inhabitants like elephants. It also provides photo ops of Sydney Harbour, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
If you'd like a more up close and personal experience, you can pay for optional animal encounters with wildlife like koalas, giraffes and reptiles. Meet these fascinating creatures, and take home a souvenir photograph.
Education Officers can offer you and your family a wildly different learning experience, allowing you to go face to face with live animals. Learn about plants and animals in their natural environments, and develop an understanding and positive attitude about wildlife of all types. This experience gives visitors both young and old the skills and enthusiasm to actively participate in the care and conservation of flora and fauna in their own communities.
Sydney Taronga Zoo opened on October 7, 1916. Since then, the zoo has conducted 33 conservation breeding programs, 11 recovery programs, 10 in situ conservation partnerships and is involved in a further 10 major research programs for conservation. The zoo is a not-for-profit organization and maintains a proud international reputation for animal care and conservation.

Gondola not in operation due to high winds, Savannah section also under refurb. Nevertheless made for a lovely day out with generally well-planned exhibits and animals that generally look comfortable in their homes. The regular ferry from Circular Quay, payable using the Opal card comes often enough.
Go and see the koalas at he start as it gets busy - lovely day and views of Sydney are amazing
Excellent zoo - so much to see!!!
WE took the ferry from Wharf 2, purchasing a separate ticket...much cheaper that way. you can buy a 2 day pass for the ferry which will take you to the zoo and 2 all the islands if you are going to be there for couple of days It includes the zoo ticket, gondala ride at the zoo, and transportation from circular quay pronounced key to/from for 54. Good deal otherwise indivual round trip ferry ticket is 7.50 zoo ticket 35. WEll with it. FUn relaxing day, enjoying nature walks . BEautiful view of harbor and bridges from gondalo. HIghly Recommend. Easy to navigate from start to finish.
My only suggestion is to get there early and plan on staying all day. If possible take public transport Bus or Ferry as the car park fills quickly. Lots to see and do including lots of walking. Bring water bottles there are free refill stations around the Zoo. Several new food and drink locations not overpriced and the food quality is what you would expect from fast food places. The coffee is medium quality. An enjoyable, tiring day.
Taronga zoo has spectacular views, lots of animals and is well laid out for a zoo. If it weren't raining the day of our visit, it would have been a most enjoyable day. Since we started late, we had to catch the last ferry at 4:30 p.m. to go back to Sydney. I will probably visit it again at a different time when it's not so rainy in Sydney due to the remnants of Cyclone Debbie.
