About this activity
At 9:00 am appointment with chef at Porta Messina. The tour will begin at the Taormina market with the explanation of the displayed products and how they can be handled. After the explanation, we buy the ingredients that we need for the lesson. After reaching the restaurant, the participants will find an already prepared table with all the tools on and they will be equipped with an apron. We will start making home-made pasta with a very traditional method. After the fresh pasta we proceed to make “home-made Caponata” with the vegetables that we bought at the market. During the lesson we will prepare many other dishes of the Sicilian culinary tradition such as fresh sardines, zucchini flowers and more... Once finished the course, all participants will sit at a table for tasting the prepared dishes and different Sicilian wines and liquors. Mineral water and coffee included, of course! To all guests will be released a nice recipe in English and a certificate of participation from the Chef.

I would highly recommend this experience. Chef Massimo was so full of enthusiasm, the time just flew by. The day started with a visit to the local market where Chef Massimo explained about the local produce, including fresh fish, meat and vegetables. With produce purchased we moved on to a local restaurant and kitchen set with wonderful views over the bay. We started making pasta and then rolled it into macaroni. Then chopped and cooked vegetables to make caponata, moved onto a fantastic cauliflower dish, then meatballs in lemon leafs, then fish. All of the cooking was explained well and Chef Massimo put you at ease and guided you through each process. With the cooking complete we then sat down to eat the food we had prepared. It was wonderful and with copious amounts of wine, Chef Massimo joined us to entertain us with stories of friends, family and life. We could have sat there all day! I'm so glad we decided to do this, it was a day I will always remember with fondness. Chef Massimo is Sicily's answer to Jamie Oliver and I can't wait for the book!
Chef Massimo was so much fun! He was relaxed and engaging while keeping all the participants on task. We cooked a lovely lunch with his instruction. He also gave us recommendations for restaurants that serve seasonal and local foods. Even if you're not an enthusiastic home cook, you will highly enjoy this class.
