Our tour guide could have made this town come alive with stories of the people who lived and worked here during history. Instead she told us dates and repeated herself, making it a lecture instead of fun. Even the old Greek Theatre seemed dead and uninteresting because of her lack of interesting details, such as what plays were here and who were the actors. The tour was in English, but one woman needed to have German translation which took time. We quit asking our guide any questions because she perhaps did not understand us, or was upset that we interrupted her, because her replies did not always answer the questioner and made us feel like we were out of line to ask her anything. She said she came from Syracuse to do this tour and was tired all the time. Maybe another guide needs to replace this woman. The Greek Theatre entrance fee was 10, even for the short 20-30 minutes we were there before it closed. If we wanted to see the theatre again we would have to pay another 10 when it opened again. I suggest this tour be scheduled to begin earlier in the day and END the tour at the Greek Theatre. If the tour ended at the theatre at least 30-40 minutes before closing, people could stay longer there if they wanted. This would be a better ending than in the middle of the main street, just saying, This is the end of the tour. I was looking forward to this tour and was very disappointed.
Perfunctory was the word I used that night. A memorized recitation. My son and his friend wanted to rate the tour a zero. I gave it a 1 for Taormina itself, which is lovely. The woman running the tour, to my mind, has been doing this too long and too often, and had nothing but a rote memorized tired spiel that lacked any passion or enthusiasm. Aside from the sites and the nice folks with us on the tour, this was a total waste of time. With a passionate, or at least interested, tour guide, this could have been a great time. I mean, Taormina is an amazing place. The only thing fun about the tour was six of us laughing about it afterwards. I almost never write negative reviews, but this was such a downer when it could have been such a postive experience. We've done similar tours elsewhere and had a great time.
Martina was very knowledgeable and friendly, really enjoyed the tour.
I was in Taormina already during 4 days before the Tour and I couldn't expect that Walking tour with Margaret would be so magnificent! She showed us small group of 8 little streets and corners hidden into the town which I didn't discover by myself. Was incredibly beautiful! Tour started at the perfect time when hot sun began to disappear, firstly we visited gorgeous Greek Theatre and then continued deep into the town. Very nice experience, cultural and not tiring at all. Highly recommended for everyone who goes in Taormina.
A great way to start your visit to Taormina.
Our tour guide did not have the thrill and passion of other guides we've had. The tour was fine, but not wonderful.
