In the IX and X centuries, some of the great poets of the East, (such as Rudaky, Dakiki, and Firdousi), devoted examples of their work to the city and it is said that the "History of Bukhara" had already been written by the tenth century, with the first period of the city's existence depicted in the national epics and numerous legends.
