About this activity
Meet your guide and driver at your Tbilisi hotel at 10am for your 10-hour tour. Depart for Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia and its first capital. The city is tucked between rocky mountains, at the confluence of the Aragvi River and Mtkvari River. Mtskheta is often referred to as ‘Little Jerusalem’ due to its many significant religious and cultural sites, including many UNESCO World Heritage Site monuments.
Visit and the 6th century Jvari Monastery, a medieval monument perched on a clifftop. Admire Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a major center of Georgian Orthodox Christianity where the robe of Jesus is said to be buried.
Continue on to Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town that’s over 3000 years old. Learn about the history and formation of this city from your guide.
Pause for lunch (price not included) in a Georgian restaurant and sample the unique local cuisine.
Drive on to Gori, birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Visit the Stalin Museum, which charts Stalin’s journey from Gori to leadership of the USSR, and on to the Yalta Conference at the end of WWII and his death in 1953.
Return to Tbilisi and delve deeper into the capital city. Stop at the massive Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of the largest in the world. Continue to the Metekhi Church and the monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi. Ride a cable car up to Narikala Fortress and enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of the city. Meander down to the old city and spot the historical sulphur bath houses and the only mosque in Tbilisi. Stroll through narrow streets of the Sharden area with its cozy cafés, wine tasting bars, and souvenir shops.
At the conclusion of your tour, your guide will return you to your hotel.
