About this activity
Visit: Arenal 1968 Trail, Arenal Volcano National Park, La Fortuna de San Carlos Costa Rica
In 1968, lava covered huge sections of the jungle, and since then the soil remains hardened by lava flows; drowning kilometers of forested growth. Today, the base of the volcano houses several different ecosystems; including secondary tropical forest and open spaces with relatively thin vegetation. Along the way your guide will point you to volcanic rocks that the volcano launched during the eruption. In addition, you can also walk along the shore of Lake Arenal, the largest artificial lake in Central America. During the walk, you will reach a few viewpoints where you can get an excellent view of the volcano.
