About this activity
On the morning tour option, meet your private guide at your centrally-located hotel in Trieste or at the port to start exploring the city. To discover the roots of Trieste, you'll reach the hill of San Giusto, site of ancient Roman ruins, the medieval Castle and the Cathedral of San Giusto, which preserves stunning Byzantine mosaics and medieval frescoes. In the Lower Town, stroll along an elegant seafront and the Theresian District and be impressed by the beauty of Trieste's palaces and buildings, including the Teatro Verdi Opera House, the Stock Exchange Palace, the Greek and Serbian Orthodox chapels, and the imposing church of St. Anthony near the Grand Canal. Your tour will conclude in the splendid Piazza Unità d’Italia, Italy’s largest square overlooking the sea, where you can enjoy an Italian gelato, cappuccino or espresso.

If you'd like to enjoy the afternoon tour, you will also meet your guide at your centrally-located hotel in Trieste or from the port. Then, hop aboard a private vehicle and drive first to the Risiera of St. Sabba, the only Nazi concentration camp in Italy. See the various parts of the facility that served as a detention camp for political prisoners and transit area for Jews, most of whom were deported to Auschwitz. Explore the museum, see the photographs and documents, and get personalized attention while hearing of the prisoners that suffered there. After touring the site, transfer to Miramare to visit the romantic residence of Maximilian of Hapsburg and Charlotte of Belgium, and its beautiful park. See its interiors featuring sumptuous original furniture and decorations and take a walk in its surrounding English and Italian-style garden rich in rare plants, sculptures and ponds. Enshrined in the coastal rocks, the Castle of Miramare also gives visitors the chance to admire the most enchanting views of Trieste and its gulf. Return to Piazza Unità d'Italia at the end of the tour.

You also have the option of a full-day tour, which combines all the sites and activities of the morning and afternoon tours for a full immersion in Trieste.
