Stop At: Tulsi Manas Temple, Varanasi India

Built-in 1964 the Tulsi Manas Mandir is one of the most famous temples in Varanasi. It is made up of white marble and the beautiful garden adds to its attractiveness. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama of the epic Ramayana. The temple has beautiful images of Lord Rama, Mother Sita, Lakshman and Lord Hanuman. The walls of this temple are adorned with verses from Ramcharitmanas, the Hindi version of the epic Ramayana. There is a museum on the premises which has a rare collection of manuscripts of the Ramayana and other artifacts. It is located about 7 km from the Varanasi railway station and 2 km from the BHU Varanasi.

Sarnath, 10km from Varanasi, is one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage centers. After attaining the Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, it was here that Lord Buddha preached his first sermon, sanctified as Maha Dharm Chakra Pravartan. The great Dhamekh Stupa and several other structures stand testimony to the importance the place enjoyed at that time. The Chaukhandi Stupa is the place where, during his first visit to Sarnath, Lord Buddha met his first five disciples. The area is a treasure trove of archaeological findings such as Dharmrajika Stupa and Mulgandhkuti Vihar. Built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936 the Bhart Mata Temple is a model of undivided India. The temple is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus in Varanasi and is amongst the most visited tourist destination of Varanasi. The most striking aspect of Bharat Mata Temple is that instead of gods and goddesses, the temple houses a relief map of undivided India, carved out of marble. The temple is a rare instance of something attributed to nationalism and a tribute to everyone who participated in the making of India.

Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, a renowned freedom fighter founded Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the year 1916. Dr. Annie Besant also played an important role in the formation of this Central University. Over a period of time, it has developed into one of the greatest centers of learning in India. The BHU has produced many great freedom fighters and Nation builders. It has immensely contributed to the progress of the nation through a large number of renowned scholars, artists and scientists. Its campus is spread over 1300 acres. It has well maintained roads (crossing each other at right angle), extensive greenery, a temple, an airstrip and buildings, which are an architectural delight.
