The island of San Erasmo in the lagoon has been supplying fresh vegetables to the market in Venice for centuries.

The San Erasmo artichokes are renowned throughout Italy. In the 16th Century, the island was covered in vineyards.

Michel and his family decided to relaunch wine production on the island using the traditional methods of the local farmers and the expertise of Lydia and Claude Bourguignon (Doctors of the Earth) and Alain Graillot whose Crozes Ermitage wines have a worldwide reputation.

The resulting wine has all the character of this special island and it is the only wine cultivated within the territorial boundaries of Venice.

You arrive by taking the boat line ( Vaporetto )13 from Fondamente Nove, in Venice. Half an hour of navigation, after passing through Murano and Le Vignole. On the island there are three stops, walk down at Capannone. The reason is given by the fact that the island is large (shaped like a rectangle, the second by extension of the lagoon, after the Lido, which is instead a long strip of land) and a few hundred meters from the pier you can rent bicycles, an excellent way to visit it («Il Lato Azzurro», via dei Forti 13, phone 041 52306429, 2 hours 4 €). You cycle through vegetable gardens, fruit trees and obviously artichoke fields (which can be purchased directly from producers, for example from Giuliano Bubacco in via de le Motte, 110).
