Meet your local guide at the Ponte della Paglia, overlooking St. Mark's Square, at sunset and catch sight of the magnificent Doge's Palace. Listen to tales of the famous square as you head toward St Mark's Basilica.
Head into the darkened interior and enjoy the absence of the daytime crowd, as you discover intricate testament frescoes and glass mosaics. Mosé was a wonderful guide and the experience of being in the basilica with only a few other people and two guards was beyond description. They turned on all the lights for us and we got to go behind the altar and into the crypt. (If you go on a regular tour, it’s dark, crowded, and you can’t see much as you are herded in a line around the sanctuary.) This tour is absolutely worth the additional expense.

Loved loved loved this tour! Though it was a wet and chilly day our tour guide entertained us throughout and we pretty much were the last small Group in the Basilica...absolutely awe inspiring having the Basilica illuminated just for us. Unbelievably beautiful!
