Our expert led tour of Jewish heritage in Vienna was a private tour. Our guide, Marlena Posnitz, was open and explicit in her explanation of the devastation of the Jewish population of Vienna. She did not pull any punches. She told us about the effects of the extreme anti-semitism rampant during WWII and brought us to a multitude of sites constructed as reminders of the Holocaust. She carried a sheaf of photos representing synagogues which were destroyed and/or desecrated as the only way we could see what used to be the Jewish home in Vienna. I found the tour to be extremely informative but unspeakably sad. Our guide was not Jewish but was clearly an educated scholar who was invested in being able to answer all of our questions. Seeing evidence of this ancient hatred was emotional. This is a worthwhile tour. Highly recommended. Life is not always comfortable, even on vacation.
