About this activity
The Old Town of Vilnius, a UNESCO-protected site, is crammed with cobblestone streets and Gothic and Baroque churches, plus imposing palaces and even a castle. Meet your guide in Old Town and start strolling the narrow, winding streets, learning about the history and culture of Vilnius, as well as how the Soviet era created scars that are still visible in the streets of the city.
Vilnius’ Old Town is one of the largest preserved medieval quarters in all of Europe. Learn from your guide how so much of the town remains preserved. And while you’re at it, try some of the very edible fruits of Lithuania’s culinary culture: cured meats and fish, cheese, and bread. The tour includes stops at five cafés, shops or bars.
Lithuanian cuisine, influenced by the food of Poland and Germany, is rib-stickingly hearty. Indulge in bigos, a long-simmering hunters stew bobbing with sausages and seasonal veggies. Or sample the cold, bright-pink borscht soup. Wash it down with a locally produced beer or wine or even mead, honey wine. Try gira, Lithuanian kvass, which is made from black bread. Sip some acorn coffee, a caffeine-free drink that has been popular in Lithuania since the Middle Ages.
The tour concludes in Old Town, leaving you free to continue to explore this part of town. Go ahead and walk off the feast you’ve just devoured.

The concept of learning about a new country, culture and city with a local guide is brilliant. You mix the impressions of a new city with information, stories and flavors of local food. In our case we also got a picnic in a beautiful park. After nearly four hours we left the tour well fed with impressions and food. Our guide Ieva was both knowledgeable and committed. She was responsive and gave us valuable information about everything from historical events to local traditions in her family.
Our guide knew the facts about Vilnius and the history of the traditional foods of Lithuania. It was an esdycwslk with stops to sample good and drink.
very few food stops and those were boring
Exceptionally well informed guide Vilija, willing and able to provide customized tour experience. Wide variety of food samples in a variety of impressive locations. I was quite full at the end of the tour which was clearly the Best food and History tour I have taken anywhere in the world..
Amazing, unbelievable, great! I loved it! We took the tour in winter, the weather was about -15 C and still the tour was great! Our guide Rasa Aleksaite is very professional. She told us so much about Lithuanian cuisine and history. It was very-very impressive. Also everything was organized perfectly: she booked tables in each restaurants we visited. We started with some history and then came to nice restaurants to drink a shot to warm and to taste different kinds of cheese. Then we walked to Uzupis - a little bit crazy part of Vilnius. We visited a local pub, first it looked weird, I'd never get in this place without the guide's advice. But the place was greate: we drank some local beer and ate zeppelin a big dumpling. And all the time we listened to different stories about food, local traditions and history. At the end we went to the center of Vilnius again to visit amazing hunting restaurant. It was so cool, next day my husband and I came back there for dinner. You can eat there wild pig or deer or even beaver. Also they have raspberry wine and many-many other strange delicious things. Again, we would never find this place without the tour. Also the people in the group were so nice and interesting. We were sitting and talking 2 hours after tour was finished. We spent unbelievable evening.
