Stop At: Kirkstone Mountain Pass, England
We start off by taking the route through the magnificent Kirkstone Pass – the highest road in the lake District – through Troutbeck valley and then along the shores of Brothers Water and Ullswater where we alight from the minibus and take a short walk down to the beach to see the lake before us in all it’s glory.
Duration: 15 minutes
Stop At: Surprise View, Borrowdale, Keswick England
We continue north to pass through Keswick and into the Borrowdale Valley where we stop at Surprise View voted the most beautiful view in all England – it is almost impossible to take it all in. After we leave here we will stop and explore the river that flows under Ashness Bridge another of the most visited places in the Lake District.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Buttermere Lake, Buttermere, Cockermouth CA13 9XA England
We travel through the Borrowdale Valley up and over Honister Pass with views from the top down into the breathtaking Honister Valley below. For those wishing to take the opportunity there is a toilet/comfort stop in the Borrowdale Valley. We stop in Honister Valley to take in the scenic views and to take photos on the banks of the River Derwent. We proceed through the valley until we come upon one of the least unspoiled and remote lakes on the tour – Buttermere. Truly one of the loveliest spots on the entire tour. Slowly we make our way along the shore line overlooking the lake below and with views of the forest and waterfalls on the opposite side. We manage to view, in part, another of the remote and unspoiled lakes Crummock Water before negotiating the narrow uphill road through Newlands Pass to Moss Force Waterfall at the top where, once again, we leave our minibus to take photos of the waterfall and surrounding views of the mountains and Valleys.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Castlerigg Stone Circle, Castle Lane Underskiddaw, Keswick CA12 4RN England
Next stop is Castle Rigg Stone circle, a testimony to mans presence in the area 4500 years ago. Older but smaller than Stonehenge this is the second most visited Stone Circle in the UK and in much more beautiful surroundings and some say the highlight of the tour.
Duration: 20 minutes
